Hey guys. Welcome back to my channel. If you’ve never seen me before, hi my name is [INAUDIBLE 00:00:09] Well, if you’ve never seen my eye before. Today I’m going to be using and reviewing the Deck of Scarlet July/August edition palette. Now, if you are not aware and maybe you haven’t been on YouTube for a while, you won’t know that Deck of Scarlet is a subscription based service. They put out a palette that contains three eye shadows, two lip colors and two blushes. So they put out a palette every other month. So it’s a subscription based service costing, I believe, $29.95. What’s cool about Deck of Scarlet, in particular, is that they collaborate with different influencers for, I believe, each edition. The first time I heard about this company was when Sandra Deluxe did her palette with Deck of Scarlet and the colors looked really, really pretty. So this video is not sponsored, however, Deck of Scarlet send me the July/August palette to use and review. So, that’s what I’m doing here today. This July/August edition is a collaboration with Nazanin Kavari. I really hope I’m saying her name correctly.
So, let’s get started. I’m going to prime my eyes first. Priming my eyes with the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Cool Tan.
And I’m setting with the RCMA No Color Powder, by the way. Don’t you hate when you forget to tweeze your brows? And get rid of those pesky, annoying little hairs? So, it comes with three eye shadows, a blush and a highlighter, as well as two lip colors. I’m actually going to use the blush as an eye shadow. And this is called Baby Doll. So I’m just sweeping this into the crease. Blowing it out a little bit. Since this color is a blush, I’m not expecting it to be super super pigmented.
And now I’m going to go in with the color Taj. Okay, well, that didn’t do much. Alright, well, we’ll roll with it. We’ll roll with it. I’m going back in with Baby Doll. I just didn’t like how Taj looked. This is straight up out of my comfort zone. These are not the kind of colors I’m used to using. Like, as primary colors. I’m going to take a clean blending brush and blend out those edges because they look very, very harsh.
I’m going to take this color called Sho Cute and apply it to the lid and see what happens. So that color is not picking up at all. So, I’m going to switch things up midway and just do, like, a half cut crease and see how that goes. I’m just going to set that with a bit of RCMA powder. Or a lot of RCMA powder. I’m going to wet my shader brush and go back in with Sho Cute and see if that picks up. Okay, it’s a little bit. Okay, I’m getting somewhere. Okay. And I’m just applying a little bit more of Baby Doll, to that outer corner. It is pretty. I just wish it was a little bit more pigmented. So, the highlighter is called Yasmine. I have swatched this on the back of my hand so I do know it is a bit ashy for me so I’m just going to use it… I’m just going to use it to highlight the brow bone.
Yeah, you guys, I know I didn’t tweeze my brows before this video but I have somewhere to be so y’all just going to have to deal. And then going back in with my blending brush. I forgot to mention to you guys that it comes with an eyeliner and I’m just going to use that now. I really like the way it feels. Okay, Deck of Scarlet, I see y’all coming through with that eye liner, though. Call me crazy but I actually am starting to like this look. The eyeliner really pulled everything together. I really like the tip. I don’t know… I’ve never had an eyeliner with a tip like this. With a felt tip that felt like this, anyway.
So, I’m just applying the highlighter to the inner corner and I’m going to kind of make it into a gradient. Alright. I’m happy with that. So, let’s do the rest of the face and I will be back.
This particular palette has two colors and I think I’m going to go with the top. I’m going to line my lips with the MAC Chestnut lip liner. Off camera, I applied my L’Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara and I also used flutter lashes in the style, Intoxicating. I left the bottom lashes pretty bare. Just…because.
So, now we’re going to move on to highlighter. I was going to move on to lips until I forgot…until I realized that I hadn’t put on highlighter yet. This is the Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in the shade, Lucy. Oh my god, that’s…way more blinding than I anticipated. Holy moly… Okay, Gerard Cosmetics…guess I don’t need to have a heavy hand for your highlighters.
I’m going to use my Sigma Lip L05 brush. I know you…this already looks familiar to you but I have another one that I use for my eyes because I like it for cut creases and detail work. But I’m just going to dip this into the color Majesty and see what that looks like. Okay, nice subtle color.
So, that’s the look. I’m going to apply a little bit of clear gloss over it. To give it a little bit of oomph. And this is just some random, like, one dollar beauty supply clear gloss, by the way. Not too shabby, if you ask me. I really, actually like the way this came out. Even though I was really skeptical about the colors, I like it. It’s actually very summer appropriate…which I’m shocked because I was very skeptical when I first got this. I was, like, uh-uh. What are you doing, baby? What is you doing, baby? What is you doing? But it turned out okay. So, don’t jump to conclusions like I did as far as the palette goes.
So, overall, about the Deck of Scarlet palette. I love the fact that they are collaborating with influencers. It really shows how the beauty industry is shifting, as far as consumer preferences and as far as, you know, recent trends. I like the packaging. Especially the one on this particular palette. It’s very beautiful. And you guys already know I’m a sucker for packaging. My thing is this. The fact that they collaborate with different influencers means that these influencers have different styles, different color preferences and different palette preferences, meaning that you may not always get colors that you gravitate towards. And the reason I say that is because the colors in this palette are really not colors that I gravitate towards. With the exception of, maybe, the lip color down at the bottom there. So, if you are going to get the subscription, I would say be aware of the fact that you’re not always going to get colors that you like but it forces you to get creative and it forces you to kind of think outside the box, as far as your looks. And, being that you’re getting, essentially, six palettes in a year, I’m sure that gives you a wide range of different looks to play around with.
In my opinion, these colors on a normal day, do not work well with dark skin. What I particularly recommend…this palette…if you have lighter skin, sure. If you have dark skin, maybe not unless you really, really know how to finesse these products. I think it really just depends on the influencer’s input into the palette and the color choices. There are a lot of subscription services out there but the fact that this particular one collaborates with different influencers is a good thing, in my eyes.
By far, my favorite product in this entire package was definitely the eyeliner. I like the way it just glides on. The color is pretty dark so… I think this the perfect eyeliner to have if you’re a beginner to eyeliners because it just glides on well and it really stays where you put it. So, I love that about it. I’ve used eyeliners in the past where they just kind of feather all over the place.
Oh, and I almost forgot the Deck of Scarlet brand is cruelty free which is awesome, if that is what you are looking for in a brand. All in all, I was skeptical in the beginning but it turned out pretty good. So, I’m pretty pleased with the look and I’m pretty pleased with myself because, you know, it’s not easy to finesse some of these products. I’m telling you. It’s not easy sometimes. So, I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for watching. Do not forget to like, comment, share and subscribe to your girl and I will see you in the next video. Lord willing. Stay blessed. Bye.
